TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – For the month of April, Travelers Rest business owners and residents are encouraged to take the Paint the Town Purple Challenge to help raise awareness for the Travelers Rest Area Relay For Life.

Storefronts and yards/homes can be decorated with anything purple – purple ribbons, purple bows, purple signs, and purple lights – in support of the relay, an annual American Cancer Society fundraising event that is now in its fifteenth year in Travelers Rest. All decorations must be up by 2 p.m. on April 1 for judging, and the winner will be announced by event organizers on April 4.

"By putting out purple ribbons and decorations throughout the city, people help bring awareness not only to our relay but to the fight that so many people are fighting today, the survivors who have won, and the caregivers that sacrifice so much each day in the lives of cancer patients," said David Odom, a past honorary chair of the event and a cancer survivor himself.

The 2017 Relay For Life is scheduled to run from 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday, April 21 at Trailblazer Park in Travelers Rest.

Check back as we will be posting more information (including various Relay fundraising opportunities taking place throughout April).
