TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Travelers Rest has been named a finalist in the USA Today "Best Southern Small Town Reader's Choice 2017 Contest".
USA Today/10Best editors and a panel of local travelers selected 20 small towns with populations under 10,000, considering over 100 possibilities and narrowing it down to a collection of small towns representing each state in the region (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia).
"These 20 small towns are each travel-worthy for their beauty, culture and shopping, dining, entertainment and lodging option," editors wrote.
For the Travelers Rest entry, editors wrote:
"Situated just a few minutes north of Greenville along the scenic Swamp Rabbit Trail, the town of Travelers Rest – TR for short – is home to several excellent restaurants, breweries, antique and specialty shops, all clustered at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Recent revitalization efforts have further enhanced this South Carolina small town."
Other towns to make the list of finalists include Blowing Rock (NC), Apalachicola (FL), Dahlonega (GA), and Sanibel Island (FL), to name a few. (See the complete list/leaderboard here.)
At the end of the voting period, the winner will be posted on the 10Best Awards Page.
