Greenville County residents face road fee increase, new public safety fee

GREENVILLE, S.C. — By a 7-4 vote in its third and final reading, Greenville County councilmembers last week approved an ordinance resulting in a $14.95 per household public safety telecommunications fee and a $10 increase in the license plate sticker fee.

Public Safety Telecommunication - $14.95 to modernize radio equipment, according to officials, for public safety and emergency agencies in the county. The increase will be on the annual property tax bill.

            1) $2.7 million, service cost to Greenville County a year;

            2) 5,000 radios, $35 monthly subscription fee per radio;

            3) $10 monthly subscription fee per radio; and

            4) $600,000 per year for six years for infrastructure, towers built and dispatch centers to be upgraded.

Road Maintenance Fee: $25 annual license plate sticker, $10 increase from present $15.

Voting for: Butch Kirven, Xanthene Norris, Rick Roberts, Liz Seman, Ennis Fant, BobTaylor, Fred Payne

Voting against:  Joe Dill, Willis Meadows, Lynn Ballard, Mike Barnes

Absent: Sid Cates

By a 7-4 vote Greenville County Council approved the two-part ordinance in a third and final reading:
