TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — The Travelers Rest High School Devildog varsity baseball team hosted Greer in a doubleheader on Friday night.

The Devildogs took advantage of a Yellow Jacket error in the second inning, stealing first after a passed ball on a strike out scoring a run.

Another run in the inning gave the Devildogs a 2-0 lead, which they extended to 3-0 with a run on three hits in the third inning. Another run after an error in the fourth inning gave the Devildogs a 4-0 lead.

Davis Huggins pitched five and two thirds innings. Greer was able to score a pair of runs in the 6th inning to cut the Devildog lead to 4-2. Chris Gomia drove in two runs in the bottom of the 6th, stole second, and then stole home to give the Devildogs a 7-2 lead. Another run in the inning made the score 8-2.

The Devildogs closed out the game with three straight outs in the 7th inning including a nice leaping catch of a line drive by Ashton Hawkins.

The Devildogs will travel to Carolina on Monday and to Blue Ridge on Tuesday. They will host Blue Ridge next Friday. Check the Travelers Rest High School calendar for the schedules.
