TRAVELERS REST, S.C. -- The Travelers Rest Devildogs and the Blue Ridge Tigers faced off at Chico Bolin Stadium on Friday night for the coveted jug.
The visitors scored quickly on their first series, taking a 6-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. They extended their lead to 12-0 with an interception that was returned for a touchdown with a little over four minutes left in the first quarter. The Devildogs answered quickly with a TD pass to Ben Dodd a minute later and the Devildogs trailed 12-6 as the quarter ended.

Derrick Fields gave the Devildogs the lead in the opening minute of the second quarter scoring on a quarterback keeper. The extra point made the score 13-12. Blue Ridge regained the lead with a six yard run with 4:41 left in the half. Ben Dodd scored his second TD of the night with 2:28 left in the half and the Devildogs led 20-18. Blue Ridge started with good field position on the kickoff and scored with 40 seconds left in the half, giving them the 26-20 lead at the half.
The third quarter was a change of pace from the first half with the defenses controlling the game. Neither team was able to sustain a drive. The Devildogs did put together a drive moving to the Blue Ridge 8 yard line, but the Tigers recovered a TR fumble with 2:07 left in the quarter and held on to their 26-20 lead. Blue Ridge scored on a 68-yard-run with 9 minutes left in the game and held on for a 32-20 win to take home the jug.
The Devildogs will travel to Eastside next Friday before returning home on October 20 for Senior Night against Pickens.
