Devildog 8U team wins Upstate championship

GREER, S.C. — The Travelers Rest Youth Association 8U team won the 4th annual Upstate Invitational tournament earlier this month. It was the team's second year in a row to lay claim to the championship.

Held at East Riverside Park in Greer and hosted by the Eastside Dolphins, the tournament drew teams from both North and South Carolina.

On Sat., Dec. 2, the Devildogs beat the Greenville Seminoles, 20-6, to earn a trip to the championship. 

On Sun., Dec 3, the team played the Eastside Dolphins. Tied 0-0 at halftime, Travelers Rest scored on a pass play of 40+ yards from Jay Wilson to Riley Broderick. Chandler Fowler converted the extra point making the score 7-0. Eastside rallied and score in the middle of the 4th quarter, but failed to convert their extra point. Eastside got the ball back with 1:20 left in the 4th quarter and only 1 timeout. The Devildogs denied their attempts, ultimately stopping them on a sweep left to close the game.
