Jones Gap Field Trip:

Third grade students enjoyed a day at Jones Gap State Park recently. Students explored the great-outdoors and learned many new things. Park rangers guided the group and shared information with students, teachers, and parents along the way. Students will apply this new information in the classroom.

'Punt-Pass-Kick' Competition:

P.E. teacher Jody Childs is again involving students in the NFL sponsored "Punt-Pass-Kick" competition. Fourth and fifth grade students compete in all three areas and those with the highest overall scores proceed onward to the district competition in route to the state level. During this year’s competition the following students were right on their game and came out on top of the list: Hannah Anders, Eric Espinoza, Perry Hartin, Alex Ward, Anastasia Samford, Kaitlyn Nix, and Josh Tabor. Congratulations and best wishes to all the winners!

Annual Balloon Launch:

Up, up and away! Kindergarten students have been learning colors and enjoying books about colors. The annual balloon launch is a fun time for everyone. All students had a balloon to launch with a return address attached. Every year notes come back from people near and far who have found the balloons. This lesson integrates reading, math, science, social studies, and writing.

School-home Compacts:

The annual parent involvement policy and school-home compact information has been distributed to all parents. Since Slater-Marietta Elementary receives Title I funding, teachers are required to have a signed school-home compact for each child. The compacts outline the responsibilities for the student, the parent, the teacher, and the school administration to insure that all students have a successful academic year. If parents would like more information on this topic, they may call Paulette Megee at 355-2011. The information will also be discussed during the fall parent-teacher conference. Parents are reminded to review, sign, and return the yellow compacts as soon as possible.
