TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Last Thursday, Tee Coker and Tripp Muldrow of Arnett Muldrow & Associates -- a Greenville-based town planning and economic development firm -- presented the final version of their recent Retail Market Analysis and Economic Development Study of Travelers Rest.

The analysis – commissioned by Council in February of this year – updates the 2003 market study which the city currently uses as its guide for business development.

The presentation included market analysis conclusions, an economic development plan, and the “next steps” that would be necessary to implement the suggestions.

To help reach their market analysis conclusions, Arnett Muldrow completed a comprehensive zip code survey that included 24 business participants and over 1,500 recorded visits as well as a retail sales leakage chart which estimates the amount of sales dollars that are lost to neighboring communities.

Key, retail opportunities that were recognized to be needed in Travelers Rest included food service and drinking establishments, clothing & accessories stores, home furnishings stores, specialty grocery, trail-friendly retail, and gas/convenience stores.

The Economic Development study included strategies to recruit and retain businesses, ideas on how to manage development, suggestions on how to “cultivate” Travelers Rest as a destination, and tips on how to better foster downtown investment.
