GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC – With over 70 community gardens located throughout Greenville County, people interested in the burgeoning movement now have a new interactive web resource – GGardeningForGood.com – to help locate gardens, find gardening resources and get involved.
Gardening for Good (GFG), a program of Greenville Forward, is a network of local community gardens that builds upon the energy of the community garden movement, coordinates neighborhood redevelopment efforts, improves the health of residents and neighborhoods, and transforms Greenville through gardening.
The GFG web resource was made possible through a grant from design company Engenius. Each grant – which the company has been offering non-profit organizations for the past three years – includes website creation, two years of hosting and support, logo design, social media marketing consulting and more.
Reece Lyerly, GFG’s director, said he learned about the grants through Engenius’ blog and became interested.
"Gardening for Good is a network of gardens and people," he said. "We needed a strong web presence and we needed a tangible way for people to get involved."
Some highlights of the created website include an interactive map of community gardens in the Greenville area, links to area gardeners, plans for creating a community garden and volunteering opportunities.
