Ring in the new year with a Paris Mountain 'Polar Plunge'

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Do you want to ring in the new year by taking a dive into the frigid waters of Paris Mountain's Lake Placid? If so, read on...

Organized by Paris Mountain State Park Friends, the 4th Annual Polar Plunge will be held at 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2015 (New Year's Day). A family-friendly event, the bone-chilling festivities help to raise money for the park, including its array of educational programs.

In its inaugural year (2011, video below), around 40 “plungers” participated. By 2013, the number grew to over 100 brave souls (the water was 38 degrees), and event organizers expect even more at this year's plunge. (Due to construction at the park and lake, no event was held in 2014.)

Entry fees are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Long Sleeve Polar Plunge T-shirts will be available for $20 (limited supply). Costumes are strongly encouraged (and prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories). The plunge will be held rain or shine.
