TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Local residents Laura Huff and Nichole Livengood – food writers, food lovers and friends – have once again partnered to bring Western North Carolina’s popular Small Plate Crawl event to the Greenville and Travelers Rest area.
Now in its second year, the Greenville Small Plate Crawl will return March 24-26 with even more restaurants, more dishes, and bigger prizes.
During the three-day event, crawlers will travel from restaurant to restaurant sampling the culinary scene. Participating restaurants create special Small Plate Crawl menus of 5-7 items, each priced at $3-$8. Crawlers peruse menus on the event website, plan their path on the interactive map, and crawl.
Last year, about 750 people crawled 24 Greenville and Travelers Rest area restaurants. This year, more than 30 restaurants are expected to sign up for the Crawl and even more crawlers are anticipated.
New this year, restaurants will also have the option of participating in a Six & Twenty Spirits Challenge. For the contest, bartenders are challenged to make a cocktail using Six & Twenty Spirits (the distillery is the title sponsor for the Greenville Small Plate Crawl). Crawlers will have the opportunity to try these creative drinks themselves as a part of participating restaurants’ Small Plate Menus, and a guest judge, Kristian Niemi, will pick the winning cocktail. The winning bartender will take home $100.
The Small Plate Crawl was developed as a low-cost and fun event for the public. It’s also a low-cost way for restaurants to build their customer base, increase brand awareness, show off their chef and cuisine, and give back to their community in a fun way.
There’s no ticket needed for the event. Crawlers will scan QR Codes or pick up take-away cards to check in at each restaurant. When a crawler checks in at five or more restaurants or orders a Six & Twenty Small Plate Crawl beverage at participating restaurants, they will be entered into prize drawings.
In addition to title sponsor Six & Twenty Distillery, the Greenville Small Plate Crawl is sponsored by Roost, iOnGreenville, eGreenville, the Greenville News, and the Travelers Rest Tribune.
