John Hubert Dunn, Jr., 86 - Marietta

John Hubert Dunn, Jr., 86, of Marietta, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at St.Francis Hospital.

Born in Jonesborough, TN, on July 23, 1928, he was a son of the late John Hubert Dunn, Sr. and Bonnie Laws Dunn. “Mr. John” owned and operated Dunn Grading since the late 70’s. His art with dirt and rocks can be seen from the Cliffs at Glassy Clubhouse and throughout the Upstate. He was loved and respected by his customers and colleagues. Prior to that, he was an owner/operator for Central Transport, Superior Trucking & Cooper Motor Lines. Mr. John was a faithful member of Cox Chapel Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon at age 80. He loved his church family and was concerned for the ones who did not know Jesus as Savior in his community. As well as for physical needs of anyone he came in contact. He was an honest, hardworking man who loved & provided for his family.

Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Darlene Mayfield Dunn of the home; two daughters, Barbara Rutan (Rick) of Franklin, TN and Kathy Norris (Ron) of Easley; a brother, Donnie Dunn of Blue Ridge; 4 grandchildren, Scott Grumbles, Mike Grumbles, Janae O’Shields and Mike Rutan and 7 great grandchildren, Tanner, Kendall & MacKenzie Grumbles, Taven & Jude O’Shields and Seth & Addison Rutan.

In addition to his parents Mr. Dunn was predeceased by his sister Betty Richmond.

Funeral services will be held at 1 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at Cox Chapel Baptist Church with burial to follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 PM Tuesday evening at The Howze Mortuary.

The family will be at the home.
