Winn V. Freeman, 59 - Travelers Rest

Winn V. Freeman, Founder and CEO of Wisdom in Living Life Ministry, Inc., entered into his heavenly rest Monday, March 9, 2015 in the St. Francis Hospital Downtown, Greenville, SC. He was born on July 10, 1955 in Bakersfield, California to Herschell & Bette Watson Freeman.

After many years living in addiction, Mr. Freeman accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in the back seat of a sheriff’s car. He moved his family to Greenville, SC in 1990 to enroll in Holmes Bible College. After graduating from Holmes 1994 he was ordained to the gospel ministry. While attending Holmes Bible College, Mr. Freeman was a frequent volunteer at the Greenville Rescue Mission, ministering to men struggling with addictions. He became the Director of the Mission in 1994, and during his service developed the Overcomers program. While serving as Director, the Overcomers program became a highly respected approach to addiction issues, and focused on a Christ-centered, bible-based teaching that targeted ending addiction and moving beyond recovery.

In 2000, Winn and his wife Rhonda sensed the calling of God to found a ministry that began in their hearts many years before. This ministry, Wisdom in Living Life, is committed to educating, equipping, and empowering the people of God to understand a biblical definition of addiction, and provide the tools and counseling necessary to overcome addiction through the power of Jesus Christ. Countless men and women sought, and benefitted, from the counsel of Mr. Freeman, were transformed through biblical teaching, and today carry on the ministry of Wisdom in Living Life in Travelers Rest, SC through weekly classes, counseling sessions, and mentoring.

Winn’s vision for Wisdom in Living Life Ministry always included a residential ranch and retreat on 42 acres of land donated to the ministry. Plans are to provide this residential ministry to men ages 17-25 that are dealing with addiction and dependency.

Mr. Freeman is survived by his loving wife Rhonda, his children Candy Freeman, Crystal Hawkins (Matthew), John Winn Freeman, and Seth Winn Freeman. Also surviving are his brother Stacy Macom of California, seven grandchildren, and three nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Damon Freeman and Aaron Freeman, his father Herschell Freeman, and his mother Bette Freeman.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Renfrew Baptist Church, 951 Geer Highway, Travelers Rest, SC at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Wisdom in Living Life Ministry, Inc., P.O. Box 150, Travelers Rest, SC 29690.
