Roy Winfred Wood, Travelers Rest

Roy Winfred Wood, 88, of Travelers Rest, husband of the late DeLane Baker Wood, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2015.

Born in Spartanburg, SC, he was a son of the late Cleveland Columbus and Julia Jarvis Wood. Mr. Wood was a WWII US Navy Veteran; he was retired from the U.S. Postal Service; after retirement he was a part time employee of The Howze Mortuary for 26 years and a Ranger at the Furman Golf Course for 25 years; he was a member of the Travelers Rest First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Sonshine Sunday School Class, a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and he sang in the choir.

He is survived by his five children, Barry Winfred Wood Diane), William Gregory Wood (Terri), Mark Randall Wood (Jackie), Lisa DeLane Wood and Scott Daniel Wood (Stephanie), 12 grandchildren and a special friend, Martha McAlister.

In addition to his beloved wife DeLane he was predeceased by 2 brothers, Ernest “Red” Wood and Leslie “Cotton” Wood and three sisters, Elva Wood Duggins, Lyla Wood Caron and Margaret Wood Duke.

Funeral services will be held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning at the First Baptist Church of Travelers Rest with burial to follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM at The Howze Mortuary.
