Travelers Rest HS Spirit Week raises more than $30K for area veterans

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – As another Travelers Rest High School Spirit Week came to a close last Friday, it was announced that students raised more than $30K for Honor Flight Upstate, a nonprofit program that sends aging veterans to Washington to visit monuments built in their honor.

The official announcement was made at a combination pep rally/ceremony held in Joe Small Gymnasium, where area veterans, including faculty and staff members who served, were recognized.

Betty Fowler, founder of Honor Flight Upstate spoke at the event, thanking students for their hard work; and Principal Lou Lavely fulfilled his promise to have his head shaved if students raised more than $1000 on Friday morning before school started.

In all, students raised a total of $30,211.88.
