Local student's fundraiser nets more than $3,500 for Tigerville FD
TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Tigerville Fire Dept. was the recent recipient of a more than $3,500 donation, the proceeds from one area student's fundraiser beauty pageant.
Courtney Gray, a senior at Greer Middle College Charter High School, presented a check in the amount of $3,676 to department officials last Wednesday afternoon.
The check represented the proceeds from Gray's “Miss Tigerville Princess Pageant”, an event she organized for her senior project.
“This is a tremendous help to the department, and the money will be used for firefighter equipment and gear,” said district commissioner Billy Watson, who was on hand for the check presentation.
A total of 43 contestants from age four through college competed at the pageant, which was held March 21 on the North Greenville University campus.
To help maximize the donation amount that was raised at the pageant, Gray said she held a separate fundraising event to help offset the costs of the pageant, the first that Gray said she organized.
