Student Council presents $30K check, vets to fly to DC Tuesday
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Members of the Travelers Rest High School Student Council on Friday presented a check for more than $30K to Honor Flight Upstate, a nonprofit group that sends aging veterans to Washington to visit monuments built in their honor.
The check, which represented the proceeds from this year's Spirit Week at the school, will make the next flight possible.
The flight is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, when a group of ninety WWII and Korean War veterans will depart from Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport.
The group, accompanied by nearly one hundred guardians, doctors, nurses, support staff, and media, will visit the World War II and Korean War Memorials in addition to viewing the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery and laying a wreath in memory of those lost in past wars.
The group will return to the GSP terminal at 8pm.
