Gladys C. Vernon, 94 - Travelers Rest

Gladys C. Vernon, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 21, 2015 in her home.

She was the daughter of Perry Dalmer and Ethel Cannada. She is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Paul Morgan Vernon; and sisters, Anna McConnell Mary Caskie and Dalma Jean Anger.

She is survived by her sister, Helen Harris (Robert); daughter, Betty Vernon Carnes; sons, John Oeland Vernon III, Paul Morgan Vernon, Jr., and Perry David Vernon; grandchildren, John V. Carnes, Ashley and Tara McFalls, Johnny, Jessica, and David Vernon; and great-grandchildren Sam and Andi Carnes.

Mrs. Vernon attended North Greenville College, where she met her husband, Paul. She graduated magna cum laude from Furman University in 1963 and received a Master's degree from Clemson University. A life-long student and teacher, she was an educator for over 30 years in and a favorite guidance counselor at Travelers Rest High School until retirement.

Gladys loved the mountains, fall colors, traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway, identifying wildflowers, taking her family camping, and hiking well into her 80s.

A fantastic cook and avid gardener, the epitome of a Southern lady, she always had a warm and welcoming home for her family and friends. She was a kind and loving soul who enjoyed her membership at the Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 pm at The Howze Mortuary.

Service at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Friday at 11 am.
