Police urge vigilance after string of vehicle break-ins
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Travelers Rest police are urging area residents to be vigilant following a recent string of vehicle break-ins.
The break-ins have occurred in the Travelers Rest United Methodist Church parking lot (during choir practice on Wed. night), at Raintree Apartments on McElhaney Road (Thursday night), and at Hawk Pointe Subdivision on Williams Road (Thursday night).
According to Travelers Rest Capt. John Gardner, the vehicles that were targeted were either unlocked or had valuables (including purses) in plain sight. Several windows were reportedly broken.
“Most autobreakings are crimes of opportunity and can be prevented,” Gardner said, adding that you should always lock your doors and either take valuables with you or lock them in the trunk where they are out of sight.
It is not known if the break-ins are related, Gardner added.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Travelers Rest Police Dept. at 864-834-9029.
