Update: Travelers Rest infant died from brain injury, coroner says
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Travelers Rest police arrested a 23-year-old man on a charge of murder/homicide by child abuse following an infant's death, according to Chief Lance Crowe.
**Update (05/22/15): According to Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans, the infant's cause of death was determined to be homicide by non-accidental brain injury.
Crowe said officers on Sunday responded to a home on Red Holly Way in reference to an infant who was not breathing and was unresponsive.
The 4-month-old baby was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he died on Monday.
Following their investigation, Kyle David Hitchcock, the infant's stepfather was charged in the infant's death.
According to warrants, Hitchcock is accused of causing a traumatic injury to the child's brain resulting in death.
Hitchcock is currently being held without bond in the Greenville County Detention Center.
