New trash, recycling, brush pickup day announced for Travelers Rest residents

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Beginning next week, all city of Travelers Rest solid waste — trash, recycling and brush — will be collected each Friday.

The new pickup day will replace the current Wednesday-Thursday-Friday schedule, according to Clint Serafino with Ace Environmental, the contractor hired by the city for solid waste collection services.

"The entire city will be collected on Friday with the new routes, allowing residents to set out their waste one time a week," he said.

Serafino also said the new Friday route will be streamlined with automated trucks that run off compressed natural gas, making them cleaner and quieter than their traditional diesel counterparts.

Serafino said the new trucks require a special can/container, and homeowners are being notified if their current can/container will need to be replaced.

During the week of June 29, Serafino said trash service will be on Wednesday (July 1) and Friday (July 3). There will be no pickup on Thursday, July 2. The new Friday-only collection will begin on Friday, July 10.
