Travelers Rest residents to vote on off-premise Sunday alcohol sales

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — In November, Travelers Rest residents will have a chance to vote on whether or not to allow for the Sunday sale of alcohol at businesses like grocery and convenience stores.

City council members last Thursday voted 6-2 on the second reading of an ordinance that places the question on the ballot in the upcoming election.

Councilmembers Harvey Choplin and Grant Bumgarner voted against the measure. Councilwoman Rebecca Cooper was not present at the meeting.

According to the ordinance, "City Council deems it appropriate that the citizens of the city of Travelers Rest be given the opportunity to determine this important issue since it relates to the economic development and welfare of the community."

In 2013, Travelers Rest voters approved Sunday alcohol sales for on-premises sales.
