TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Two local “super moms” have set out to make their mark in Travelers Rest with the creation of Travelers Rest Makers Co.

Michelle Wade of Trail Potter Clay Studios and Kristin LaRoy of Growing Up Happy, both regular vendors at the Travelers Rest Farmers Market, have paired up to bring a unique concept to Main Street, in the space formerly occupied by Goose Feathers (who moved across the street to the Lell Building). Both have served with the Travelers Rest Artist Alliance and are excited to bring a more hands-on art experience to residents and visitors alike.

The storefront will be a hybrid merchandise outlet and artist studio space for Wade, LaRoy, and guests. Shoppers can see the artists in action and watch their purchases being made from beginning to end.

“You actually see our hands create and you know where it came from, you know where your money is going and it supports local,” said Wade.

Additionally, they will offer Makers Happy Hour events for both adults and children, where visitors can try their hand at surfacing or glazing a piece of pottery, like a mug or hand printing a t-shirt.

“It is definitely going to be a unique shop and play experience that you will only be able to find here in Travelers Rest,” LaRoy said.

To help build the art bars and studio space, Michelle and Kristin have created a Kickstarter campaign with the goal of reaching $5,000 by September 4. The store is scheduled to open on September 19.
