Area residents asked to submit Citizen of the Year nominations

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – The Greater Travelers Rest Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations from area residents for the annual Citizen of the Year award.

The award, sponsored by the Bank of Travelers Rest, is presented to someone who has gone above and beyond in recent times to improve the quality of life in our community.

In 2014, Rev. David Simmons was named the award recipient. Simmons, who has served as the pastor of Reedy River Baptist Church since 2008, is a North Greenville Food Crisis Ministry boardmember and a member of the Three Rivers Baptist Association, which he was instrumental in helping to form. In addition to being a community motivator, Simmons actively volunteers at White Horse Academy/The Pheonix Center, where he also leads a bi-weekly Bible class.

A nomination form is available for download here. The nomination deadline is Friday, Oct. 23, and forms can be returned to any Bank of Travelers Rest location.

A nominating committee will determine the winner on Oct. 27, and their decision will be announced at a banquet to be held in November at Green Valley Country Club.
