Hwy. 25 reopened, residents return home after gas line break
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – A break in a 4-inch natural gas line near the intersection of Highways 25 and 414 in northern Greenville County closed Hwy. 25 and prompted a mandatory evacuation on Sunday night.
Tigerville and Slater-Marietta firefighters responded to the scene just after 9 p.m. after a crew doing work on a water line ruptured the gas main.
Around 9:30 p.m., firefighters evacuated homes within a 1/2-mile radius as a precaution, according to Tigerville Fire Dept. Chief Russell Ledford.
Hwy. 25 was reopened and area residents were allowed to return to their homes beginning around 10:45 p.m.
