Meals on Wheels' Fall Classic raises money for 27,500 meals

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Last week over 150 golfers teed off at the 19th annual Fall Classic Charity Golf Tournament, raising enough money for Meals on Wheels of Greenville to be able to provide more than 27,500 meals to the homebound community of Greenville County.

Held at The Cliffs Valley and Mountain Park courses in northern Greenville County, thirty-nine teams participated in event. The winning team at Valley was Community Journals, and the winning team at Mountain Park was N|Brancati Financial LLC. Each member of the winning teams received a certificate for a new set of tires, courtesy of Michelin North America.

“When you do something for almost two decades, you have to avoid becoming complacent, so this year was about continuing to improve the tournament and providing the best player experience possible,” said Austin Goforth, event co-chairman and Vice President at Southern First Bank, a Meals on Wheels Corporate Route Partner. “We’re extremely grateful to all our teams and sponsors who made this event a success.”

Palmetto Technology Group and Fairway Ford Lincoln Subaru served as this year’s course sponsors. Cintas, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and Greenville Maintenance Services generously supported on-course hospitality, the post-round reception and volunteers, respectively.

“Thanks to the commitment of our sponsors and the guidance of our committee, this year’s tournament was the most successful since 2009,” said Catriona Carlisle, executive director of Meals on Wheels. “But the real winners are the homebound clients who will receive a hot meal and personal contact every day thanks to this event.”

2016 will mark the 20th anniversary of the Fall Classic furthering the mission of Meals on Wheels.
