Construction underway at county court complex in Travelers Rest
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Construction is underway on a new, 12,000 square foot magistrate court building on the county side of the site of the former Travelers Rest High School on Wilhelm Winter Street.
The $2.5 million project will consist of three courtrooms, consolidating three existing northern Greenville County courts (Highlands, Bates and Cleveland) into the one facility.
According to county spokesman Bob Mihalic, the project is scheduled to be complete by summer 2016. As part of the construction, the parking lot that also serves the rec-related side of the county facility will be repaved.
Mihalic said there is no money in the 2016-17 county operating budget for further improvements at the park.
"We are aware of potential upgrades, including various amenities, and we are studying the feasibility [of those improvements]," Mihalic said, adding that the fields are currently being used by the Travelers Rest Youth Association.
The county property adjoins city of Travelers Rest-owned Trailblazer park.
