John Daniel Powell, 37 - Greenville

John Daniel Powell died of lung cancer on Nov. 15, 2015, at the age of 37. Powell was an advocate for lung cancer research and promoting clean air legislation. He was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer Jan. 23, 2014. He leaves behind his wife, Rebecca Turner Powell, and his son, Davidson Powell, of Greenville, SC.

A memorial service will be Friday, Nov. 20, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Farmer's Market in Fountain Inn, 110 Depot Street Fountain Inn, SC 29644. A reception will follow the service in the History Center. Powell, a beloved city planner for the Greenville County Planning Dept., loved the town of Fountain Inn and helped to raise millions of dollars to help fund Fountain Inn's revitalization through extensive grant work.
