Travelers Rest couple found dead inside burned home

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — A Travelers Rest couple and their dog were found dead inside their home on Clearview Circle Thursday morning, according to officials.

Greenville County deputies responded to the home around 9:45 this morning to conduct a welfare check after a concerned neighbor called and said that it appeared the home had black smoke covering the windows.

Arriving deputies confirmed that evidence suggested a fire, and Piedmont Park Fire Dept. was called to the scene. After making entry into the home, firefighters found the couple and their dog along with more evidence of a fire inside the residence.

The Greenville County Coroner's Office has identified the couple as Clyde Sargent, 69, and Sandra Sargent, 63.

SLED and Greenville County Sheriff's Office arson units, Piedmont Park FD, and the Greenville County Coroner's Office are investigating.

No further details are available at this time.

Greenville County Deputy Coroner B. Parks Evans said autopsies will be performed Friday.
