Larry Raymond Atkins, 82 - Taylors
Larry Raymond Atkins, 82, husband of Virginia Coleman Atkins died Sunday, December 13, 2015.
Once a Marine, always a Marine. Larry served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He also served as chaplain for the Marine Corps League. He was honored as "Marine of the Year" in 2014 by the USMCL detachment.
Larry served as a pastor for 60 years at Marietta Revival Center, Marietta; Christian Fellowship Church, Walhalla; and Cathedral of Faith, Marietta. He was instrumental in mission work in Haiti where he traveled over 30 times to serve. He trained pastors and partnered with Send The Light and other church organizations to help build churches, schools, and orphanages.
Larry was also editor of The Monitor, a local newspaper, for 30 years.
Born in Greenville in 1933, he was the son of the late Raymond Grady Atkins and Mildred Hardin Atkins. Preceding Larry in death was his brother, Maurice Atkins, and his son, Michael Atkins.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 61 years are his daughters and their families: Rhonda Odom, Wally Odam, Rachel Branch, Curtis Branch, Rebecca Sudduth and Stan Thomas; grandchildren: Michael and Connie Branch, Chris and Keri Branch, Ronnie and Amanda Galbreath, Michael and Linsey Grant, Brandon and Lauran Steadman, Landon and Sara Odom, and Luke and Kayla Odom; great-grandchildren: Eli Galbreath, Kilee Grant, Jaxen Rose Branch and Charlotte Steadman; brothers: Harold Atkins and Donald Atkins.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Faith Temple Church, Taylors, SC. Funeral Services will follow at 2 P.M. Graveside services immediately following in the church cemetery.
