Joyce Munson, 81 - Travelers Rest
Sister Joyce Munson, osc, of the Monastery of St. Clare in Travelers Rest, went home to God very peacefully with one of her sisters at her side, on Saturday, January 30, 2016. She was at Hope, Health and Rehabilitation nursing home in Marietta, where she lived for many years and received extraordinarily compassionate care.
Born in Honolulu, HI, on May 20, 1934, she was the only child of the late Martin and Julia (Judy) Lauda Munson.
Sister Joyce was one of the founding members of this Poor Clare Monastery, one of twelve sisters who came from the monastery in Jamaica Plain, MA on March 1, 1955, and she has been a Poor Clare for 65 years.
In addition to her Poor Clare Sisters, she is survived by her cousins, Paul and Charlotte Lauda, of Moncks Corner, SC and Betty Goodman of Pound Ridge, NY, who were very devoted to her.
Animals were always a special love and comfort of Sister Joyce’s. She also had a special place in her heart for all who suffered discrimination and spent her life praying for them.
She was always grateful to her Lord and to her sisters and caregivers for whatever kindness she received.
Services will be held Friday, February 5, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. at the Monastery of St. Clare in Travelers Rest, followed by burial in the monastery cemetery.
Online condolences may be expressed here.
Thomas McAfee is in charge of arrangements.
