Paris Mountain State Park seeks school program volunteers
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Paris Mountain State Park will hold a school program volunteer orientation on Tues., Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
School program volunteers are naturalists at heart who want to share the wonders of nature with second- and fifth-graders in the park’s "Discover Carolina" school programs, according to Ranger Cathy Taylor.
Volunteers sign up for days that work with their schedule, often just one to three times per month, Taylor said.
Discover Carolina volunteers perform a variety of functions, including assisting students with measurements and observations, leading second-graders on nature hikes around Lake Placid, leading fifth-graders in the use of a creative writing journal at the park, assisting in a forest ecology program, and delivering pre-visit kits to area schools.
At the February session, Taylor and seasoned volunteers will train participants for the spring season. Registration is required.
For registration and/or more information, email Cathy Taylor at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or call the park office at 864-244-5565. Participants should bring a bag lunch.
Paris Mountain State Park is located at 2401 State Park Road.
