Travelers Rest firefighters to take icy plunge Saturday

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — A group of Travelers Rest firefighters will take part in this weekend's Pennies 4 Preemies Polar Bear Plunge on Lake Hartwell.

The fundraising event takes place on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. at Portman Marina in Anderson. All proceeds benefit Upstate families with children born prematurely or with special needs.

Last year's plunge allowed P4P to support Children's Hospital of the Greenville Health System (a Children's Miracle Network Hospital), Pediatric Therapy Works, and the Family Connection of SC, according to event organizers.

This is the second year in a row that Travelers Rest firefighters have participated in area "polar" plunges. In 2015, the group of firefighters took part in the Polar Plunge at Paris Mountain State Park, using the event to raise awareness for brain cancer.

The video below is from the Travelers Rest firefighter's recent appearance on Your Carolina.
