O'Mara, Frant named Business Persons of the Year

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Local business owners Andy O'Mara and Loren Frant were named the Greater Travelers Rest Chamber of Commerce 2016 Business Persons of the Year, it was announced Tuesday.

Sponsored by TD Bank, the award was presented by bank manager David Marlowe at a dinner reception at Green Valley Country Club.

O'Mara and Frant are best known for their popular Main Street eatery, Sidewall Pizza, opened in January of last year in the old Bryant and Lell building. O'Mara is also the owner of Merrimack Canoe, located just north of Travelers Rest city limits.

"Andy first came to Travelers Rest to move his canoe manufacturing business but realized early on that the Bryant and Lell building wouldn't be large enough," Marlowe said. "He and Loren had fallen in love with Travelers Rest and wanted to stay active in the business community, so they opened Sidewall."

O'Mara and Frant are also active in Let's Keep TR Beautiful, sponsor various fundraisers, and started a weekly Swamp Rabbit Trail running event, Marlowe said.

In 2015, the the Chamber's Business Person of the Year award was presented to Kem Theisen, then owner of The Forest Coffeehouse.
