Swamp Rabbit Tees: Keeping it 'old-school' on Main Street
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — You might recognize Shelby Robinson from Steve Borklund State Farm Insurance, where she was the "Director of First Impressions." And now after four years of working from home running several online businesses, she's back in Travelers Rest in the flesh.
“Figuring out what my next adventure would be,” she said, led her to opening Swamp Rabbit Tees on Main Street, a store where she sells t-shirts and bags that are regionally specific. Designs include the Travelers Rest zip code, and other images inspired by bikes, the GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail, etc.
Several factors led to this new venture. She's a self-admitted fabric snob and likes to be comfortable, but in the t-shirt business she believed a store front would be critical to her success. Shelby felt customers needed to be able to feel the quality of her shirts.
Shelby describes her first few months as being an “amazing adventure.” She's already grown her space, has plans to alter the process in which the shirts are made, and created collaborations with other businesses. For example, the current promotion is the “Feed Greenville” shirt, which was designed in partnership with Nichole Livengood of Gap Creek Gourmet. They were “chewing on a way to give back,” and came up with a shirt inspired by the local food scene. The shirts are $25 and part of the proceeds benefit Harvest Hope Food Bank.
It's obvious that doing things the Travelers Rest way are important to Shelby: “As big as TR may or may not get, I'm dedicated to keeping my space small and rustic and 'old school' TR.”
