Travelers Rest businessess, residents encouraged to 'paint the town purple'
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – In April, Area business owners and residents are once again encouraged to “paint the town purple” to help raise awareness for the Travelers Rest Area Relay For Life.
Storefronts and yards can be decorated with anything purple – purple ribbons, purple bows, purple signs, and purple lights – in support of the relay, an annual American Cancer Society fundraising event that is now in its fourteenth year in Travelers Rest.
"By putting out purple ribbons and decorations throughout the city, people help bring awareness no only to our relay but to the fight that so many people are fighting today, the survivors who have won, and the caregivers that sacrifice so much each day in the lives of cancer patients," said David Odom, a past honorary chair of the event and a cancer survivor himself.
The 2016 Relay For Life is scheduled to run from 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday, April 22 at Trailblazer Park in Travelers Rest. Check back as we will be posting more information (including various fundraising opportunities taking place throughout April).
