Furman's summer lakeside concert series gets underway
GREENVILLE, S.C. — A tradition since 1968, Furman University’s Music by the Lake Summer Concert Series will kick off Thursday, May 26 in the university’s amphitheater with a "How the West Was Won" performance by the Lakeside Concert Band.
The band, under the direction of Furman’s Leslie W. Hicken, and other ensembles and guests will present a concert every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the amphitheater (except where noted) through Aug. 4.
The performances are free and open to the public and showcase a cross-section of big band, jazz, international, contemporary, marches and orchestral favorites.
The concerts are made possible by Furman University and are sponsored by the Bank of Travelers Rest, George Coleman Ford (Travelers Rest), The Greenville News, Publix Supermarkets Charities, The Woodlands at Furman and Pecknel Music Company.
