Wayne Nix, 76 - Travelers Rest
Wayne Aubrey “Chief” Nix, 76, of Travelers Rest, departed this life at his home and was reunited with the love of his life, Susan Edwards Nix, on June 4, 2016.
Mr. Nix was the past owner of Western Auto in Travelers Rest and long time member of Travelers Rest First Baptist Church. He was the charter chairman of North Greenville Fire Department and instrumental in the founding of the fire department, charter treasurer of the Cooper Masonic Lodge, charter board member of the Travelers Rest Historical Society and served on the Advisory Board of The Bank of Travelers Rest. He served in the 323rd Infantry in the US Army and served in the US Army Reserve. He enjoyed racing, fishing and supporting his children and grandchildren in whatever they were involved in. He was a true Travelers Rest man that loved his gospel music.
He is survived by three children, Larie Tripp (Ricky), Greg Nix (Dawn), and Mary Beth Bowers (Chris), all of Travelers Rest. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kyle and Melissa Nix, Chelsea and Halle Tripp, and Lucas Bowers and two great-grandchildren, Patrick Parker “Grey” Gressette, III and Cameron Nix. He is also survived by brother David G. Nix (Carol) of Temple, TX and Linda Gail Beahm (Leon) of Cookstown, NJ, as well as many nephews. He is also survived by a special friend of many years Frankie Edwards.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother, Edith C. Nix, father, B.B. Nix, and sister, Dixie Frohn Nix.
Mr. Nix asked to publicly express gratitude to Linda Gail “Sister” Beahm for her constant care for him over the past several weeks.
Pall bearers are Lee Beahm, Hollis Beahm, Ronnie Beahm, Tim Hendrix, Jason Keller, Todd Kluge, Tom McKenzie, Daniel Nix, Ronnie Nix, Donnie O’Neal, and Greg Thompson.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at The Howze Mortuary from 6-8 pm.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 pm at Travelers Rest First Baptist Church with entombment immediately following at Coleman Memorial Cemetery.
