James Ansel Pierce Jr, 85 - Marietta
James “Jimmie” Pierce, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully at his home on June 7, 2016, after many years of declining health. He was the only child of the late James A. and Lillian Ballard Pierce, and was also preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Mildred Hall Pierce.
He is survived by his son, James A. Pierce, III, daughter-in-law, Becky Ferrell, and beloved dog, Trouble. Jimmie was a graduate of Slater-Marietta High School, North Greenville College, and attended Clemson A&M College. He served in the US Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant, and was honorably discharged. After a twenty-three year Textile career, Jimmie founded Marietta Pallet Company, Inc., and served as President of the company until his retirement in 1996. “Big Jim” as he was known to his employees and business acquaintances, was never more content than when he was operating his front end loader or bulldozer, with his German Shepherds by his side, or when he was attending an auction. He was a mason, and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
The family extends special thanks to Ronnie Bates and Harold Bates for always being available when assistance was needed and to John and Mary Gunther for the beautiful flower and vegetable gardens planted annually at the home.
Following a private memorial service, interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
