Seth Scruggs - Travelers Rest

Seth Ward Scruggs of 60 Maple Lane, went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2016.

Born in Travelers Rest, he was the only son of the late Seth Ward and Mary Philpot Coleman Scruggs. Seth enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after his eighteenth birthday. While in the Army, he qualified for an appointment to the United States Military Academy. He was a graduate of The United States Military Academy at West Point. He was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force and completed pilot training. He was a Command Pilot with more than five thousand flying hours. Seth also graduated from the Air Command and Staff College at The Air University. He was Commander of a KC135 Squadron in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, and The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He retired after twenty years of service with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After his military service, Seth returned to Travelers Rest where he owned Spring Park Apartments and Coleman Memorial Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Coleman Scruggs of the home, and Bo, his beloved dog; son: Robert (Sandra) Scruggs; daughter: Sandra (Paul) Scarpa; stepson: Scott (Tracey) Tate; step-daughter: Melissa (Mark) Moody; 6 grandchildren: Seth (Cynthia) Scarpa, Elizabeth (Richard) Muncaster, Justin Tate, Nicholas Moody, Luke Moody and Levi Moody and 4 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service with Military Honors will be at Ebenezer Church Cemetery on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 11:00 a.m.
