Lucille Henderson, 96 - Greenville
Lucille Bridges Henderson, 96, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Her husband, Ralph Henderson, a Marine veteran and the love of her life for 60 wonderful years, predeceased her.
Born in Travelers Rest in 1920, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Estelle Bridges.
Lucille graduated from Travelers Rest High School. She was a charter member of Buncombe Road Baptist Church, and later a member of Parisview Baptist Church. Lucille retired from Cone Industries after a long career in manufacturing.
Family and friends were Lucille’s passion and delight. She adored her siblings, granddaughter, and her numerous nieces and nephews. She had many devoted friends and she cherished each and every one of them. During her active life, she loved spending time with her family at their lake house on Lake Greenwood. She enjoyed fishing and boating. Lucille was an active member in the community and her church before becoming infirmed. She used to visit the house bound members of her church. She was a faithful member of her Sunday School Class at her charter church and her Ladies Circle group. In earlier years she attended church retreats with her sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Bridges - they both loved God and serving others. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with family at holidays. She was an excellent cook and always wanted guests to enjoy her homemade meals. She loved the many children in her life and they were duly spoiled by her charms. She also enjoyed traveling and took trips to Germany, France, Canada, Mexico and to many locations out West with her sisters. She always said that being in fellowship with others was the best part of life. Everyone who knew her loved her.
She is survived by one daughter, Sherry Whatley, (Earl) of Columbia; one granddaughter, Julia Whatley Hyland, (Andy) of England; and two sisters, Jeanette Lenderman and Dorothy Sprouse (Bob).
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Cathy M. Henderson; and seven siblings, Marvin Bridges, Jack Bridges, William Bridges, Charles Bridges, Ruth Darby, Mary Jones, and Cecil Tucker.
