Update: No charges to be filed in shooting deaths of Travelers Rest couple
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Police say no charges will be filed in the hotel shooting deaths of a Travelers Rest couple earlier this week.
Greenville County coroner B. Parks Evans said 61-year-old Deborah Atkins Winkler, of Travelers Rest, was found Tuesday around 9:50 p.m. in a room at the Hampton Inn on Roe Center Court with a gunshot wound to the head. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Glenn Jowett Winkler, 67, was found in the same hotel room as his wife, also with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died. His death was ruled a suicide.
"Strong evidence indicates that no other subjects were present in the Winkler’s hotel room at the time of this incident," Travelers Rest Police Chief Lance Crowe said in a statement. "Evidence also indicates that both parties were most likely willing participants in this event."
