Hoyt Starkey Sr., 79 - Travelers Rest
Hoyt Dean Starkey, Sr., 79, lovingly referred to by his friends and family as, “Big Hoyt”, passed away on October 13, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He fought a long and courageous battle with kidney disease. He was tired and ready to go home.
Born on April 8, 1937, he was the only child of the late Calvin D. and Eva C. Starkey. Hoyt lived in the Travelers Rest area all of his life and was retired from Titan Manufacturing, with over 30 years of service. He was a simple man with a heart of gold and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was of the Baptist faith.
Left here on this earth to cherish his memories are his wife, Barbara Ann Harris Starkey and his son, Hoyt Dean Starkey, Jr. He is also survived by one precious aunt, Mrs. Canetchlee Huff, his first wife, Mrs. Vera Bone and his three cats.
A celebration of his life will be held at The Howze Mortuary on Sunday from 1:00pm until 2:30pm. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:30pm at The Howze Mortuary Chapel with Dr. William Cashion and Pastor David Hardin officiating. Graveside services will follow at Coleman Memorial Cemetery with Mr. Anthony Mullinax officiating.
Pallbearers will be, Alan Harris, Travis Harris, Timothy Harris, Alex Davis, Todd Roberts and Jimmy McCall.
Honorary escorts will be Bobby Hawkins, C.G. Buchanan, Nick Neshan, Dale Mullinax, Charles Anderson, Bill Rochester, Ricky Buchanan, Hayward Medlin, Robert Bone, Mike Nix, Bob Coffee, Neil Johnson, Dr. William Kendrick, Dr. Jim Hayes, Dr. Stanly Coleman.
Junior honorary escorts will be Chandler Neshan and Andrew Davis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
