Men shopping for body armor lead officers, deputies on chase

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Two men led law enforcement on a multi-jurisdictional chase on Tuesday afternoon after the owner of a tactical supply store in Travelers Rest called police about their behavior, according to authorities.

Travelers Rest Police Chief Lance Crowe said the owner of Dixie Karting on U.S. Hwy. 25 called after the two men purchased body armor and left the store, saying that they were acting suspicious. When police ran the tag that the store owner was able to provide, it came back suspended.

"Our officers found the vehicle near the Spinx station on Hwy. 25 and attempted to pull it over," Crowe said. "A chase began in our city and was cancelled on our part once [Greenville County Sheriff's Office deputies] could intercept it and take over."

At one point in their pursuit, police said at least one of the suspects was wearing the body armor.

Greenville County deputies took over the pursuit, which led into Pickens County then back to Greenville County, where the chase ended on Riverview Circle around 6:30 p.m. according to deputies.

Two men were taken into custody, deputies said.

The names of the suspects have not been released.
