Historical Society releases limited edition reprint of classic Travelers Rest history book
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — The Travelers Rest Historical Society has released a 50th anniversary, limited edition reprint of an out-of-print book by Mildred Goodlett on the history of Travelers Rest.
"Travelers Rest At Mountain's Foot" was originally published in very limited quantity in 1966 and had one reprinting in the early 80s. According to Historical Society boardmember Tom Drake, the society was able to obtain permission from Goodlett's sons to reprint one run of the book.
The 183-page hardback features many black and white photos and embossed lettering on the cover and spine. Much of the text was derived from interviews, with notable persons, businesses and events intertwined with local family genealogies.
With the exception of the addition of "50th Anniversary Edition" and an introduction by the sons, the book is a near exact reproduction of the much sought after original printing.
All proceeds from the sale of the book support the effort's of the Society, Drake said.

Note: The book will be available to purchase at the annual Art on the Trail festival on Sat., Oct. 22. (Read more here.)
