Thomas “Tommy” T. Adkins, Sr., 93, widower of Rachel K. Adkins, passed on to his Heavenly home on Nov. 26, 2016.
Born in Greer, Nov. 5, 1923, he was a son of the late George R. Adkins and Cora T. Beaman. Tommy graduated from Hickory, NC High School, and attended Lenoir Rhyne College. He served in the US Air Force during WWII, 1942-1946. Tommy served as Postmaster in Marietta from 1959-1983. He was a member of Marietta First Baptist Church for over seventy years, where he had served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and RA Leader. Tommy was a Charter Member of Slater Marietta Lions Club, where he had over sixty years of perfect attendance. He had served as a Board Member of Stroud Nursing Home, Greenville Memorial Auditorium, and the Advisory Board for Bank Of Travelers Rest. Tommy loved spending time with family, going on vacations, serving his church, and helping people in any way. He also loved selling brooms and fruit cakes to raise money for the Lions Club. Tommy also loved having an annual July 4th family gathering at his Lake Greenwood House. This lasted over fifty years, and often had fifty to sixty people.
Surviving are two sons: Terry Adkins (Kit), and Scott Adkins (Brenda); three grandchildren: Tom Adkins (Sara), Jason Adkins, and Jenna Adkins; and two great-grandchildren: Lily Adkins, and Ella Adkins.
Along with his wife and parents he was predeceased by two sisters: Lee Verle Jarrard, and Helen Westmoreland; and three brothers: Wallace Beaman, George Beaman, and Theron Beaman.
The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at Marietta First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Marietta First Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Coleman Memorial Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Adult 5 Coed Sunday School Class, and members of the Lions Club.
The family will be at their respective homes.
