Travelers Rest man charged with DUI after crash with school bus
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — A 30-year-old Travelers Rest man was charged with DUI following a crash with a school bus on U.S. Hwy. 25 just north of Travelers Rest city limits on Monday afternoon, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Gregory Charles Fellmeth was driving northbound in a 2005 Dodge around 4:30 p.m. when he ran into the back left corner of the school bus while it was stopped in traffic near the intersection of East Bowers Road.
Troopers said Fellmeth left the scene but was apprehended a short time later.
In addition to the driver, two students from Northwest Middle School and four from Travelers Rest High School were on board the bus at the time of the crash. One student complained of elbow pain, but no other injuries were reported, according to school district officials.
Fellmeth was arrested on charges of DUI, leaving the scene of an attended vehicle, possession of marijuana, and unlawful passing of a school bus, according to Greenville County Detention Center records.
The wreck closed all lanes of U.S. Hwy. 25 at times, with traffic backing up in the southbound lanes into Travelers Rest.
