Updated: Man charged following high-speed chase, crash on Geer Highway

Update (02/15/17): The S.C. Highway Patrol has charged 20-year-old Wyatt Blayne Darnell with failure to stop for blue light, driving under suspension, and methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute in connection with Monday night's chase. He is currently being held in the Greenville County Detention Center.

SLATER-MARIETTA, S.C. — A nearly 30-minute long, high-speed chase that traveled between Greenville and Pickens counties ended in a crash on Geer Highway near Hart Cut Road in Marietta on Monday night.

 

According to dispatchers, speeds reached nearly 100 m.p.h. as the chase re-entered Greenville County near Pumpkintown.

The chase was initiated by the S.C. Highway Patrol, although there is no word at this time on any arrests and/or injuries, if any.

Greenville County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to stage along Geer Highway, not participating in the chase as it re-entered Greenville County, according to scanner traffic.

A S.C. Highway Patrol vehicle was damaged during the chase.
