Travelers Rest PD launches 'Coffee with a Cop' outreach program
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — The Travelers Rest Police Dept. will on Thurs., March 9 host a community outreach "Coffee with a Cop" event at the Indigo Ridge Cafe at 308 Poplar Street in Travelers Rest.
With the goal of establishing a positive bond between community members and local law enforcement officers, the Coffee with a Cop program was launched in Hawthorne, CA, in 2011. Since then, events have been hosted in all 50 states and across Canada, Europe, Australia.
According to organizers, the key to Coffee with a Cop’s growing success is that it opens the door for interactions outside of the crisis situations that typically bring law enforcement officers and community members together.
"There are no prepared speeches nor is there any agenda," said TRPD Sgt. Ben Sambrano, who is spearheading the Travelers Rest program. "It's a chance to come together to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the officers in your neighborhood.
Future Coffee with a Cop dates and locations will be announced soon, Sambrano said.
