TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Former Travelers Rest Mayor Roy Reynolds has passed away, according to Travelers Rest officials.

City Administrator Dianna Gracely said Reynolds, 60, died Sunday after he suffered a heart attack while on a golf outing in Myrtle Beach.

Reynolds, who served as mayor from 2000 to 2009, was at the helm during the Travelers Rest Main Street revitalization project and the conversion of the Swamp Rabbit Trail. He was an active member of both the Greenville Shriners and the Travelers Rest Lions Club, serving as a charter member and president after the latter was newly formed in 2010.

“Roy was an amazing person who had an enormous capacity for love," Gracely said. "He loved his family, his friends, his hometown. He gave back in countless ways."

Gracely said Reynolds deserves much credit for what Travelers Rest is now today, saying that "the tremendous rebirth of Travelers Rest is owed to his vision, dedication and hard work."

Reynolds was named the Greater Travelers Rest Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2012, and he had been previously named a Travelers Rest Area Business Association Business Person of the Year, an organization in which he was also a founding member.

Arrangements for Reynolds are being handled by The Howze Mortuary, however details have not yet been announced.
